Summerhill - Lights is a cooperation between various young filmmakers with different specializations making ambitious and challenging movies for television and movie screen in Europe. The company has expanded in 2008 and adapted producing documentaries and image movies.
The idea to produce movies was ignited in 2005, and our first joint short film „Schach Matt“ was shot in 2006. This movie served dramaturgical and technical dissolution tests and was performed on one set.
Motivated and driven by the experiences drawn from this short film we established Summerhill – Lights. One year later our production “Schweigen ist feige” (Silence is Craven), the fictive life story of dubbing artist of Tom hanks, could convince moviegoers. We feel affirmed in our team composition and decided to produce out next film in the same composition.
As we later discovered with great success: The media critical film „Johanna Nukaris knowledge on the fourth power" (Johanna Nukaris Wissen über die vierte Macht) resonated greatly with the audience.
Unlike other filmmakers we dedicate our attention less on the arts, but rather focus on the story plot. This does not imply that our movies are shot without love: just the opposite. We differ from others because our target group is the average consumer, not just filming experts and art connoisseurs.
When producing a movie, it is our biggest goal to achieve that viewers can emphasize with our movie and the main characters, experience emotions through them in addition to feeling entertained while doing so.

Brief summary:
In the midst of trying to establish a career as a lawyer (after an only mediocre state examination) Tom Fischer receives a phone call from the police: of all people his uncle, who solely supported him during his studies through the income of his restaurant, died of a tragic death - he fell head first into his own cooking pot.
The overall difficult employment situation, the banking crisis, personal loans and the feeling of owing his uncle force Tom to quit his career plans and instead take over his uncle’s restaurant.
Even though his cooking skills are lousy and the situation appears to be hopeless, his different restaurant guests and characters and the at times unconventional support of two fellow students enable him to get closer to his goal of becoming a lawyer.
And one coincidence follows another…
Statement from the directors Menno Döring and Elisa Nitschke:
“Crisis in Germany: At first unemployment is successfully reduced (or at least adequate statistics are manipulated) and now the banking crisis drops in on us and busts it all up again. In such an overly professional and academic country, in which one can pretty much study everything except waste management, it’s not easy to find a job. Especially young lawyers struggle with this system governed by bureaucrats and ever-changing laws and regulations. Once a law is passed it is soon altered or replaced by another one. Whereas one used to have a well mannered argument, today every matter is ruled by a specific law.
Therefore, we decided to comically adapt and films aspects of this struggle.
Everyone, lawyer or not, will understand this film and will see many parallels to his or her own life and occupational experiences.“
